Dental Sealents

What is a Dental Sealant?

A dental sealant is a plastic material that a dentists brushes over your, or your child’s, back teeth. The sealant bonds to the teeth, filling in the crevices and grooves.

Why is a Dental Sealant a Good Idea?

For many years, dental patients were told that the best way to protect their teeth between dental office visits was to brush and floss regularly. While this is good advice, brushing and flossing isn’t always sufficient. Many children, and some adults, have difficulty getting their molars and premolars clean. This can result into decay, cavities, and high dental bills. A sealant can prevent this kind of damage, preserving dental health and reducing your costs.

What is the Process Like?

Sealant application is painless. After drying the tooth, your dentist will first apply a special gel that makes the top of the tooth abrasive. This helps the tooth to bond to the sealant material. After applying the sealant, your dentist will use a blue light to harden the sealant.
